Buzz Media is proud to recap our participation at Digimark Reloaded 2024, held on the United Nations’ Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day. This prestigious event focused on empowering MSMEs to achieve success through innovation, provided a valuable platform for us to share our experiences in eCommerce, and was an invaluable place to connect with the local business community.
Our CEO, Stephan De Roche, was a featured speaker on the panel “Teaching Technology How Best To Serve Me,” alongside industry leaders Kathryn Nurse and Anya Ayoung-Chee. The discussion was moderated by Ricqcolia Phillip, founder of Sister Isle Digital, and centred on harnessing the power of technology to enhance customer experience and drive business growth.

Kathryn Nurse, CEO of Immortelle Beauty, shared her experience on how her company significantly improved website sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. She attributed the success to being prepared for online opportunities which reduced friction in the customer journey. This case study highlights the importance of having a user-friendly website, streamlining the buying process, knowing when to pivot business strategies, and how being previously positioned in digital spaces can make a massive difference in opening the doors of opportunity.
Stephan De Roche, CEO of Webgold and Buzz Media, emphasized the concept of customization and personalization. He suggested using a mix of free and paid tools such as Segment to gather customer data and build individual 360-degree profiles. This allows businesses to tailor their offerings and experiences to each customer, fostering a sense of connection and value. For Buzz Experiences, Buzz Media’s travel brand launched in 2023, technology was an integral part of making customers feel special in having experiences that were tailored to their desires. Stephan stressed the importance of merchants protecting themselves with security measures for their online businesses, recommending that they utilize platforms with built-in security features and ongoing maintenance.
Prominent fashion designer Anya Ayoung-Chee shared her insights on how her various social & business ventures utilize technology to stay connected and efficient across numerous geographical locations. She discussed the potential of being one of the first companies working and selling within the Metaverse. Ayoung-Chee introduced her fashion label Wyld Flwr’s concept of “Phygital Festivalwear,” which combines physical and digital products, pioneering a new kind of retail experience in this new digital realm. She highlighted the value of project management tools like Slack for team communication and collaboration. Ayoung-Chee concluded by speaking about the development of the Nudge application, where online education and systems played a crucial role in helping makers transition into using a digital marketplace.
Our CEO’s insights resonated with the audience, highlighting Buzz Media’s commitment to:

Beyond the panel discussion, Digimark Reloaded offered a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. We were particularly impressed by:
- Dr. Keita Demming’s keynote on embracing failure as a stepping stone to success. He discussed building frameworks for long-term strategic thinking and overcoming challenges for entrepreneurial success which resonated deeply. Dr. Demming challenged the idea of entrepreneurship being purely logical and suggested a more holistic approach that considers both vision and execution. His discussion emphasized the importance of making your future goals drive your present actions, focusing on keystone activities to achieve said goals, while aligning resources for success. It truly wanted us to dive deeper by learning more in his book, Strategy to Action.
- Lisa-Maria Alexander’s enlightening discussion on attracting your ideal customer by first knowing who you are, and answering her 25 key questions to create a well-thought-out marketing plan. Alexander walked the audience through the marketing process with an energetic, engaging presentation that caused the MSMEs present to truly consider the value of what they offered their clients. The message of customer-centric approaches continued to resonate as Alexander elaborated on how marketing should consider client needs. Emphasizing personal authenticity, this tutorial-style message ended with audience members being able to share their vision and pitches to the room.
- Samantha Conyers’ closing discussion on the importance of challenging the Customer Experience (CX). She challenged businesses about whether their values hinder their CX outlook and emphasized the importance of empowering employees to prioritize CX, even beyond set guidelines. Conyers posed key questions for the audience to consider, like the meaning of CX for their business and how it aligns with their strategic goals. The session also explored assumptions about customer satisfaction and loyalty, prompting attendees to consider the methods used to track CX progress.
